Personal Statement

NTH is a Professor in Physics at the University of Strathclyde. Supported by funding from the EPSRC, the European Research Council, BBSRC and the Leverhulme Trust, his research has focused on developing ultrafast two-dimensional infrared (2D-IR) spectroscopy methods. In particular, NTH’s research has been motivated by a desire to understand the way in which dynamic molecular processes influence the function of biological molecules including reactions in enzyme active sites and the binding of small molecules to proteins and DNA.

A significant contributor to this work has been the close collaboration between the NTH group and the STFC Central Laser Facility (CLF) based at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. This collaboration has successfully made 2D-IR spectroscopy available on three internationally-leading laser systems (PIRATE, ULTRA and LifeTIME) for the benefit of the UK scientific community.
