Teaching Interests

I teach creative writing at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. For the former, as well as core classes  in creative writing,  I have written and delivered courses in Dramatic Writing, Creative Non-Fiction, New Narratives, which looked at the role of writing in the digital world, and Developing Readers and Literary Publics (with Michael Higgins).

I also have a number of MRes and PhD students who are writing in genres including historical, young adult and contemporary fiction.

I am interested in teaching narrative in all its forms; fiction, non-fiction, film or online.  I am also interested in the huge potential that writing for children and young adults offers.

Expertise & Capabilities

I have published fiction for both children and adults. I have also written extensively for BBC radio - single plays, serials and adaptations as well as a number of screenplays, one of which was chosen to be developed through the Equinoxe scheme in France. I have a background in arts journalism and a love of good writing, in any form.
