Personal Statement

Dr Sara Davies is Senior Research Fellow at EPRC and a Director of the European Policy Research Consortium (EoRPA). She has considerable research and policy-oriented expertise in EU Structural and Cohesion Funds, and in national and regional economic development policies. She undertook an MSc and PhD in regional economic development before working as an economist at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs in 1997-2003, where she was responsible for the economic analysis and assessment of economic development strategies in a number of Convergence countries and macro-regions. She now specialises in research on the design, implementation and evaluation of both Cohesion policy and national regional development policies, notably in Germany, and she has managed and conducted research for the European Commission and Member State authorities in a range of European countries. Further areas of current work focus on the regional impact of the financial crisis and economic downturn, as well as the contribution of regional policy to socio-economic well-being.
