Personal Statement

Dr Tahsin Tezdogan is a lecturer in Fluid-Structure Interaction in the Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering. He received his BSc and MSc degrees from Istanbul Technical University, Turkey, where he worked as a research assistant for three years before joining the University of Strathclyde. Dr Tezdogan received his PhD degree in 2015 from Strathclyde from the Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering, with his PhD thesis entitled, ‘Potential Flow and CFD-Based Hydrodynamic Analyses of Mono- and Multi-Hull Vessels’.
Dr Tezdogan has a broad range of research interests, including CFD simulations of ship motions and resistance, the added resistance of ships due to waves, and the investigation of ship behaviour and performance in channels/canals. Currently he is working as a Co-I on a project entitled “Designing safe, green and sustainable vessels for Indonesian coastal transport and fishing operations”, funded by the British Council’s Newton Fund Institutional Links Grants. Within this project Dr Tezdogan is responsible for carrying out many tasks involving hull form optimisation of such vessels’ operation in Indonesian waters, using the state-of-the-art Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods. To date, Dr Tezdogan has published ten papers in highly ranked journals and has presented his research at several international conferences and workshops. In addition to this, Dr Tezdogan is currently a guest editor for an Ocean Engineering Special Issue on ‘CFD Applications in Ship and Offshore Structures’. As of April 2017 he has become deputy editor for Ocean Engineering journal. More recently, on 26th September 2017 Dr Tezdogan was appointed to an ITTC Specialist Committee on Combined CFD/EFD Methods for a period of three years. He is also a member of WEGEMT, RINA and the Scottish Branch of RINA.
